Learn more about the symptoms and causes of bunions and when it’s time to seek professional help.
bunions footA bunion is a bony bump that can form on the joint at the base of your big toe. It is formed when the big toe pushes against the next toe. This forces the joint of the big toe to get bigger and stick out.

Symptoms
The symptoms of a bunion include swelling, redness, and soreness around your big toe; a bulging bump outside the base of your big toe; intermittent or persistent pain; corns or calluses; and restricted movement.

Causes
Bunions can be caused by several factors, such as foot injuries, deformities present at birth, inherited foot type, wearing tight and narrow shoes, and a medical condition (i.e. arthritis).

When to See a Podiatrist
If you experience persistent foot pain, see a visible bump on your big toe joint, and experience decreased movement of your big toe or foot, please reach out to Divine Footcare Center, Inc. for treatment and recommendations.
